Visiting Lecturer

Those appointed to the rank of visiting lecturer are teaching faculty that do not hold professorial titles elsewhere but have primary appointments to which they will return, such as government posts, etc. In very special cases, on the recommendation of a department and with the permission of the Dean, a visiting lecturer who has achieved significant distinction in his or her field, such as election to the National Academy of Sciences or the American Academy of Arts and Science, may be given the additional designation “with the rank of professor.”
