Outlined below are examples of the effect of a leave of absence on your pay and your benefits, whether you have a regular full-time schedule or a regular part-time schedule. Both examples are based on an annual base salary of $72,000 per year.

Example 1: Leave with full pay for the academic year salary

Your annual base salary is $72,000 and is received in ten equal monthly installments (that is, $7,200 per month from September 1 through June 30).

Benefits Status: There is no change unless you change health care plans. Your benefits continue as if you were working your regular schedule.

 
Example 2: Leave with half pay for the academic year salary

Your actual salary is $36,000 and is received in ten equal monthly installments (that is, $3,600 per month from September 1 through June 30).

Benefits Status: The following benefits are based on your annual base salary of $72,000 per year:

  • Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) Plan annual coinsurance limit (includes deductible)
  • Basic Life Insurance coverage, Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage, and Supplemental Life Insurance coverage
  • Long-Term Disability Insurance Plan coverage

The following benefits are based on your actual salary of $36,000 per year:

  • Princeton University Retirement Plan: University contributions
  • Tax-deferred Annuity Plan: Faculty voluntary contributions
  • Temporary Disability Plan coverage
  • Business Travel Insurance Plan coverage
 
Example 3: Leave without pay for the academic year salary

Benefits Status: The following benefits are based on your annual base salary of $72,000 per year:

  • Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) Plan annual coinsurance limit (includes deductible)
  • Basic Life Insurance coverage, Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage, and Supplemental Life Insurance coverage
  • Long-Term Disability Insurance Plan coverage

The following benefits are not available while on a leave without pay:

  • Princeton University Retirement Plan: University contributions
  • Tax-deferred Annuity Plan: Faculty voluntary contributions
