The University requires background checks prior to final approval for appointments for faculty members and academic professionals. These background checks will include verification of social security or other national identity number; confirmation of highest degree; and a criminal background check for any felony convictions within the previous seven years. In addition, all job applicants will be asked to confirm the veracity of information they submit, and they will be informed that final candidates must submit to a background check. Individuals appointed to visiting ranks do not require any part of the background check. For Lecturers: All Lecturers being considered for initial hire will need to undergo a full background check (criminal history and education verification). If a Lecturer was hired prior to the 7/1/2014 background check implementation, and has been consistently reappointed without any breaks since his/her initial hire, he/she will not need to undergo any part of the background check before the next reappointment. If a Lecturer was hired prior to the 7/1/2014 background check implementation, and has been reappointed several times, but with breaks of at least one semester between reappointments post 7/1/2014, he/she must undergo a full background check (criminal history and education verification) before the next reappointment. If a Lecturer has completed a background check previously, but has had a break in service of over 12 months, he/she must repeat only the criminal history verification portion of the background check before his/her next reappointment. If a Lecturer completed a background check previously, and has had a break in service that is less than 12 months, he/she will not need to repeat any part of the background check before his/her next reappointment.
