Oliver Avens joins the Deans Office as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
It is our pleasure to welcome Oliver Avens as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, effective August 1. Oliver’s responsibilities will focus on the faculty in all four divisions of the University, with oversight of tenured and tenure-track faculty searches, including approval of ads, search plans, short lists and EEO compliance. He will manage the recruitment and appointment processes of new assistant professors, instructors and senior lecturers, and review and approve their offer letters. In addition, he will manage the extension of term process for childbirth and adoption, and childcare teaching relief. Oliver will also manage the appointment and reappointment process for academic program, center and institute directors, and be the DOF point person for medical accommodations for faculty. He will represent the DOF on various committees, including the Committee on the Course of Study..
Oliver joins the DOF from Rockefeller College, where he served as Dean since 2005, and prior to that as Director of Studies at Forbes College between 2001 and 2005. Before pursuing academic administration, Oliver received his PhD in Political Science and Yale University and served as an assistant professor in our Department of Politics.
