Oct. 24, 2023 Denise S. Valenti, a longtime communications professional with experience in journalism and higher education, has been named manager of communications for the Office of the Dean of the Faculty (ODoF). As manager of communications, Valenti will oversee communications and marketing strategy for ODoF. “At the University, Denise has been one of our most thoughtful partners in studying how the Office of the Dean of the Faculty could improve as an organization, particularly in how well it communicates internally, to our campus stakeholders, and to the broader world beyond campus,” said Gene A. Jarrett, Dean of the Faculty and the William S. Tod Professor of English. “I am delighted that, moving forward, we can work with her even more closely, with even greater attention to our strategic planning.” Valenti has served Princeton since 2017 as a writer, editor and content strategist in the Office of Communications, developing news, feature and research stories for the Princeton homepage and other University channels. From 2022-23, she also served as key client liaison to ODoF. “I am excited for this opportunity to join the Office of the Dean of the Faculty, not only to help tell the stories of our world-class faculty and academic populations, but also to facilitate internal communications in ways that support their incredible work in service of humanity,” Valenti said. A longtime journalist, Valenti has contributed to numerous publications including The New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today magazines, Working Mother and Latina, where she was senior associate editor. She has provided editorial support for colleges and universities throughout her career as a writer, editor and consultant. Among her past clients are Williams College, Colgate University, The College of New Jersey and Monmouth University. She also worked in communications at Fordham University as a writer, editor and public relations specialist. Valenti is the recipient of a New Jersey Press Association First Place Award for Education Writing, as well as a Gold Award, Circle of Excellence, from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. With team members in Princeton’s Office of Communications, she shared in a 2023 Clarion Award from the Association of Women in Communications. A graduate of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Valenti holds a B.A. in history and newspaper journalism.
