Harriet I. Flower, Clerk of the Faculty, prepares abstracts of the minutes for all Faculty Meetings and gives notification to the Faculty of special meetings and important matters proposed for action at any meeting. The Clerk also serves as Secretary of the Committee on Committees. Based on the recommendations of that Committee, she recruits faculty members to stand in elections for standing Faculty committees and creates the slates for these elections.
Harriet is Andrew Fleming West Professor of Classics in the Department of Classics. A graduate of University College, Oxford and of the University of Pennsylvania, she teaches courses on Roman history and Latin literature and culture. Her research interests lie in the areas of Roman political culture and historical periodization, memory and spectacle, and traditional religious practices of Romans. Harriet is married to Michael Flower, who teaches Greek history in the department of Classics. They have two adult daughters.
