Visiting Professorships for Distinguished Teaching

Princeton's visiting professorships for distinguished teaching were established by President Harold T. Shapiro as part of a set of teaching initiatives announced at the beginning of the University's 250th anniversary celebration in 1996.

Visitors are selected for their demonstrated teaching excellence and to improve their capacity to bring new ideas in undergraduate teaching to the campus. Each teaches an undergraduate course and engages in other activities to enhance education at Princeton, such as workshops for faculty and graduate students, demonstration lectures and classroom visits. Visitors are invited to introduce new courses and other pedagogic innovations that address significant curricular gaps at the University.
